Winter 18/19 start

Winter 18/19 has started in Les Gets.  It is always hard work driving over in Lara, with a trailer. We chose to take the night crossing to Le Havre, just managing to catch the tail end of Storm Deidre – needless to say not much sleep on the 9 hour crossing, but at least no lorries fell over! Apart from that the journey went well, and if anybody is driving over soon slow down for the tolls and look out for the ‘Gilets Jaune’ – they’ll let you through for free!

Slightly mixed feelings as we drove up the route des Chavannes on Monday and passed our old chalet – always a question of whether we did the right thing selling……. Anyway we picked up the keys to our new chalet – Kavakia, and were both really pleased. It’s better than we remembered, and should work really well. Location is good, views are good, rooms are good – really looking forward to it.

After 15 years of slumming it in a basement or attic we have also decided to take on an apartment for us this year. So we are living OUT. Its also Fab, sitting just above QG’s we should be able to walk to Kavakia in the morning!

As usual there are a few changes in Les Gets, we probably haven’t discovered them all but highlights are that the K2 has gone……. But the Alpine Tavern has picked up the burger business and is delivering to the bush! There are a couple of new restaurants underneath Annapurna, and the Chamois D’Or now has its own bar. The boomerang is still under Chamois D’Or, and the old boomerang building is almost complete. We’ve just picked up our lift passes so will post soon about any new runs.

Its taken 3 days to get everything out of storage and get set up, but we’re ready to go now. First guests arriving tomorrow and they’ll be pleased to see everything is snowey!!!!!

The only negative is bookings. We missed the end of season rush because we didn’t know if we would be here or not. Once we secured Kavakia we only had summer pictures! So we still have New Year available and lots of space in March. So stop worrying about Brexit and come skiing in Les Gets. Loyalty discounts to repeat guests as always!

See you soon – happy 18/19 ski seasons!

And

Happy Christmas to you all.
