Thursday 18th January was worth the wait and an adventure.
Like all adventures it had its up’s and down’s. The point in which I was seriously considering why I loved skiing so much was when I was on the two-man Grande Ourse chairlift on Mont Chéry to meet some friends when it suddenly lurched to a stop. I was alone on a small chairlift in the middle of a snowstorm for 40 minutes. I was very cold and tired.
To my relief the maintenance team fix the top lift station and I finally made it to the Grande Ourse restaurant where my friends kindly bought me a hot chocolate and placed me in front of the fire. Being exhausted and freezing; I was ready to give up and go back to the chalet, but I was convinced to stay out… and I was so glad I did.
The powder on the black run was lush and I went on my first track of off-piste through the trees along side the red run Épervier and then underneath the bubble to the bottom of Mont Chéry. Skiing in the afternoon made up for the time I had in the morning and reminded me why we put up with the cold and rickety chairlifts. Its also stories like this that make the season more memorable and gives you something to tell your friends and family at home.
